How We Came to Be

Three decades ago, T. Palijor Lama started a Tibetan-themed hotel in Lazimpat. It was his attempt at preserving and introducing his heritage, culture, and memories of Tibet in one of Kathmandu’s nooks. In 2008/9, T. Palijor with his son Tenzin Zoepa Lama, started the foundation for another Tibetan hotel. With his grandson Tenphel Zoepa Lama joining the property makes him a third generation hotelier managing the property in the heart of Kathmandu’s Tibetan community—Boudha.

Hotel Tibet International opened its doors in 2011. From the Potala-inspired exterior of the hotel washed in white, gold and deep maroon, to the rich interior decor reminiscent of a Buddhist monastery, Hotel Tibet International managed to share the Lama family’s passion for their Tibetan roots yet again. This time, it was Bolder, Bigger Better!

Elegant hand-knotted rugs grace the floors, extending a warm invitation to all who enter, while timeless antiques, such as a meticulously carved wooden chest or an exquisitely detailed coffee table, offer pleasant surprises at every turn. Intricate Tibetan Buddhist motifs, rendered in shimmering gold against rich red wood, adorn the spaces, evoking the intimate experience of exploring ancient monasteries.

The Hotel

The Hotel

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Boudha, our hotel is an ode to the rich tapestry of Tibetan art, culture, and tradition. The building’s façade, adorned in the warm, earthy tones of mud yellow and Lama maroon, pays homage to the unique architectural heritage of Tibet. Step inside, and you’ll find yourself immersed in a world where every wall is a canvas, adorned with colorful Tibetan paintings, intricately hand-crafted Thangkas, and mesmerizing mandalas.
